My poem shows the contrast of how the morning of a person's day might go compared to the way a rabbit in a laboratories might go. There are almost two parts to the poem. The slightly relatable and normal beginning. You wake up, rub your eyes, have a good stretch, and then maybe apply a good morning lotion. We all have our morning routines and that's fair, but what people do not realize is that it is easy for us to apply that lotion and never think about exactly how it ended up here.
The rabbits morning is going a lot different. They are in constant pain, their skin is being abused, and their eyes are so over tested they can hardly open them anymore. They are suffering through the aching of chemicals and products being forced in and on their body. They lead this horrible life all the way until they die a gruesome death. This poem is to represent the fine line these companies have made so that people do not realize what is being done. The consumers need to become more aware of the real problem that lays there as they put that product on their face. It may be safe for people to use, but it's being tested at the cost of many poor animals lives.
What’s Within
The sun appears,
It’s time to rise.
You wipe those nightly tears
From your puffy tired eyes.
You make squeals
As your arms stretch far.
You love how it feels
Like you’re reaching for a star.
Your skin feels dry,
So you grab your lotion.
You’re so happy with this buy
Because it’s a skin healing potion.
You go on your day
With soft clean skin,
But you never consider the way
It took to make what’s within.
The day for some rabbits
Begins the same,
But with a few different habits
And much less tame.
The sun appears,
It’s time to rise.
They wipe their sad nightly tears
From their swollen gassed eyes.
They make a horrific squeal
As their legs can’t stretch far.
Pain is all they feel
As they open up an old scar.
Their skin is poisoned dry
As the scientists rub the lotion
So that it’s safe for people to buy,
And you can enjoy a skin healing potion.
They do this everyday
As they slowly lose feel of their skin.
Because you never considered the way
It took to make what’s within
